In a vibrant corner of El Alba Bilingual School, a unique educational experience took place that captured the attention and enthusiasm of our first graders. The children were immersed in the world of traditional Honduran games, discovering a rich cultural heritage while having fun and learning.
The school organized a special day in which parents were invited to participate in this entertaining activity to share with their children and their classmates the traditional games they played when they were little.

Among the games the children learned were:
Hopscotch: A classic playground game in which children throw a stone on a diagram drawn on the ground and jump from square to square.
El Trompo: This skill game requires children to spin a spinning top with dexterity. Parents show children how to give the perfect impulse to spin the top for as long as possible.
Encostalado: A game where children must put their feet inside a bag and hold it at waist level. They must jump with their legs together to the finish line quickly while keeping their balance.

Parent involvement has been key to the success of this project. Families not only attended the game day, but also participated in the planning and execution of the activities. Some parents have even shared anecdotes and local variations of the games that have enriched the children’s educational experience.
Learning through play offers numerous benefits. In addition to promoting physical exercise and coordination, traditional games also teach children important social skills, such as teamwork, patience, and problem solving. By learning these games, children also develop a sense of cultural identity and belonging.
