I am Victor Hugo Lopez Guevara, graduate of El Alba Bilingual School class of 2015. I began pre-school at El Alba in 2002 and have numerous vivid memories of my time as a student and still laugh about things that happened 10-13 years ago. Besides my education, El Alba gave me wonderful friends and teachers. I recall when I played the Prince in the 2014 production of Romeo and Juliet directed by Mr. Geza Farkas, and remember Mrs. Rose McCoy´s amazing voice and guitar playing during the civic hour.

Besides an ability to speak English as a native Speaker, El Alba gave me a vision of worldwide academic opportunities in multiple disciplines. My coursework, year-by-year, helped prepare me for the path I chose.

Personally, I feel one who really marked a breaking point between the Victor ready for graduation and the Victor who was still between middle school and high school was Ms. Geraldina Rivera in her Social Studies and History courses. Mr. Gerson Velasquez who played an important part in where I am today through his influence on my critical thinking and analysis skills particularly important in this age of constant change and evolving scenarios.

Like many graduates, I went to university and received an undergraduate degree, in International Relations. All tiny victories are worth calling “accomplishments” as during my studies, I received academic awards including a scholarship to study for a Master’s Degree abroad at the National ChengChi University (among the top five) in the Republic of China (Taiwan) which counted as my most remarkable experiences. Spending almost three years in a new place and culture, acquiring both language and local mindset, has essentially taken my whole life and built a new one. Though incredible, my journey in Taiwan has ended. However, I will be forever grateful for that amazing nation´s willingness to bet on successfully furthering my education.

Following graduation, I continued my journey in International Logistics as an overseas business developer for a Taiwanese company after having worked previously in the same business, in operations, for an American courier. But there was a missing piece. In May, 2022, I changed my career path and went into the education field, becoming an English Teacher. Never in my wildest thoughts would I have pictured myself as a teacher for grades 1-6. Nevertheless, that is what I am doing currently, and every day I try to do my best as a role model for the kids as they work to speak English. I teach grammar, Science and Culture. Teaching is a humble but rewarding experience when you see the kid’s progress.

My future plans include seeking a position in the Humanitarian Aid and Assistance field in Relief Projects, Migration and relocation assessment. One of the main crises around the world is the massive movement of people escaping war, authoritarianism and poverty. Working in logistics, with children and speaking two languages, plus a third at a certain level, define my interest in serving others.

I can proudly say, I was a student at El Alba Bilingual School, and am ready to lead, ready to serve, and am proud to be from Siguatepeque and shall try in my chosen profession to make this a better world.
